Guests are welcomed with a sense of being away from the busyness of everyday life, and invited to rest, relax and recharge in a peaceful, serene and intimate setting within a natural forest.
Maruia River Retreat’s Wellness facilities an 8metre magnesium pool, outdoor stoked hot tub alongside an infra-red sauna set in the beech forest. The Wellness centre with a premium yoga shala, a massage treatment room to unwind and detox you’ll feel totally relaxed. Choose to enjoy a spa massage or attend complimentary yoga and meditation classes, which are held daily. Experience forest bathing for mindfulness – a healing practice inspired by the Japanese immersion therapy “shinrin yoku” – translating to “taking in the atmosphere of the forest”
Located as the perfect base to explore the surrounds with white water rafting, Bullet Jet boats, nature walks, mountain bike tracks and interesting towns within easy driving distance across the West Coast, the Nelson Lakes District and Lewis Pass. Offsite tracks such as Braeburn and Lyell tracks are accessible as well as the the Maruia Falls and the Buller Gorge. Your hosts can recommend and arrange any activities you wish to book during your stay.
Trek through 11kms of the Retreat’s native beech forest, The Maruia River is renowned for its trout fishing with many of the best fishing spots located directly in front of the property.
As evening falls head to the Main Lodge; the contemporary lounge is a welcome spot to sample local wines, craft beers and the best spirits the region has to offer. Cuisine is a highlight, prepared in the gourmet kitchen from local ingredients, mostly from the retreat’s gardens. Enjoy 3-course dinners with spectacular views at in the casual restaurant or the 4-Season outdoor room. Nourish, relax and linger in such picturesque surroundings.
There are many ways to arrive. Land by helicopter or a private plane on the property’s 500-metre private airstrip or take a gorgeous scenic drive from the West Coast and Nelson (2-hours) or Kaikoura and Christchurch (3.5 hours). Luxury vehicles and executive drivers are available for transfers or guided tours to or from the estate
